Ibrahim Gado Nuhu, a JHS two (2) Student at Kwanyako Roman Catholic Junior High School at Agona East District in the Central Region of Ghana believes he has the quality to become the biggest export for Ghana as he wins first gold medal for Ghana in Mini Cadet Boys (Singles) in the ongoing World Juniors Table Tennis Championship 2019 here in Accra Ghana.

Success in the mini-cadet boys’ singles event, Ibrahim Gado Nuhu was the host nation’s hero as play concluded on Friday 6th April at the 2019 Ghana Junior and Cadet Open in Accra.

After overcoming Nigeria’s Mustapha Mustapha (11-5, 11-7, 7-11, 9-11, 11-6) he accounted for Congo Democratic’s Neredi Bovoji Mutshu (11-5, 11-5, 13-11) to secure the title.

Now he is already looking forward to the African Youth, Junior and Cadet Championships which commenced today, Sunday 7th April 2019.

“I am so excited about winning the title; my toughest match was the semi-final against Nigeria’s Mustapha Mustapha. We trained together at the Africa Western Region Hopes Training Camp last year, so he knows my game. The fact last year that I beat him at the Hopes tournament 3-0 did not stop him from him trying to prevent me from winning the title. He is such a talented and skillful player who is very tactical on the table. Having overcome him, I had the confidence that I can claim the title.” Ibrahim Gado Nuhu

Notably, Ibrahim Gado Nuhu hails from a sporting family, his father a sportsman of some renown.

“I used to play football like my father who was a former Liberty FC of Accra star before he retired. There was a day that my father called me that he a dream that I should take to table tennis because I will have more opportunities in the sport.” Ibrahim Gado Nuhu

Most certainly in Accra, the 11-year-old seized the opportunity and hopes one day to follow in the footsteps of his role models.

“I love Timo Boll because we both use the left hand and I love Quadri Aruna because of his powerful forehand which distinguishes him across the world. I love his manner on the table and I want to take his place as the best African player in years to come. “Ibrahim Gado Nuhu

Successful but also very humble, he explained to Nathaniel Kwesi Somuah, Media Officer Ghana Table Tennis Association after his victory that he was grateful to his supporters.

“I want to thank all Ghanaians for their prayers and support. Our president Mawuko Afadzinu has done well for us by bringing this tournament to us. Our coaches trained us well and our current senior players gave us a lot of support during our training camps. I want to thank my parents, coach Kwame Ampofo and the other coaches for helping me reach this far, all the people of Agona Kwanyarko and most especially Ghana Table Tennis Association. This gold medal is dedicated to all Ghanaians and it is a sign that we are ready to lift the flag of Ghana high.” ~ Ibrahim Gado Nuhu

Agona Kwanyako, a town located in the Agona East District in the Central Region of Ghana is noted to be the hub of talented table tennis players in Ghana.

The Ministry of sports must help invest in these talents in the community who are ready to represent the country at all major championships.

Lionel Messi Blasts Barcelona For ‘Throwing’ Luis Suárez Out Of The Club

Published

on

Lionel Messi has launched a fresh attack on Barcelona’s hierarchy for the way the club treated his close friend Luis Suárez after the striker left for rival club, Atlético Madrid.

The Argentine playmaker, who threatened to leave Barça last month and recently hit out at the club’s president Josep Maria Bartomeu’s leadership, said Suárez was harshly treated and ‘thrown out’ of the club.

In an emotional goodbye post dedicated to Suarez, the club’s third-highest scorer of all time, Messi wrote: “I had already begun to imagine it but today I went into the dressing room and it truly dawned on me. It’s going to be so difficult to not continue to share every day with you both on the pitches and away from them.

“We’re going to miss you so much. We spent many years together, many mates, many lunches and many dinners. So many things we will never forget, all the time we spent together.

“It will be strange to see you in another shirt and much more to come up against you on the pitch. You deserved a farewell that fit with who you are: one of the most important players in the history of the club. Someone who achieved great things for the team and on an individual level.

“You did not deserve for them to throw you out as they did. But the truth is that at this stage nothing surprises me anymore.”

On Thursday, an emotional Suarez said goodbye to Barcelona and paid tribute to Messi after sealing a switch to Atletico Madrid. The Uruguay international had previously made it clear that he wanted to stay and see out his contract but was told by Barca’s new coach Ronald Koeman that his playing days were over at the club.

Suarez helped the club win four LaLiga titles, four Copa del Rey crowns, and the Champions League in 2015. He scored 195 goals and provided 113 assists in 283 outings for the club before his exit.
