Douglas Tamunokopo, 29, who is a married man is currently on trial before Justice C.O Agbaza at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Maitama, Abuja, for allegedly killing his girlfriend, Udo Abigail, for having an abortion without his consent.
We learned that the deceased was in a romantic relationship with Tamunokopo at the time of her pregnancy.
Abigail later discovered that the defendant already had a family in River State with two children. She reportedly terminated the pregnancy after learning of the discovery.
The development, however, sparked a heated debate that devolved into a fight between lovers.
According to a source, after the fight, the defendant left for work, leaving Abigail alone in the room.
When Abigail did not come out of the defendant’s room, neighbors became suspicious, and when they entered Tamunokopo’s room, they found the deceased sitting on a chair, with a rope hung on a nail on the wall and tied around her neck.
Tamunokopo was later arrested and charged with the murder of Abigail. The criminal charge against the married man partly read;
“That you, Douglas Tamunokopo, on September 1, 2016, around 3 pm, at the Mogadishu Barracks, Abuja, in the Abuja Judicial Division, did cause the death of your girlfriend, Udo Abigail, by strangulating her to death.”
