Alexia Putellas of Barcelona has won the 2022 Ballon d’Or Feminin for the second time in her career.
Putellas won the Ballon d’Or Feminin in 2021 for her outstanding performances for Barcelona and Spain, and she won it again in 2022 after another outstanding season in 2021/22.
The Barcelona captain scored 28 goals in 37 games across all competitions this season, winning her sixth Liga F title and seventh Copa de la Reina.
Putellas and Barcelona also advanced to their second consecutive UEFA Women’s Champions League final, but were defeated 3-1 by Lyon at Allianz Stadium. During their European run, Barcelona attracted record crowds, even selling out Camp Nou for a quarter-final match against archrivals Real Madrid.
Unfortunately, we don’t expect to see Putellas on a football field anytime soon after she tore her ACL on the eve of Euro 2022, a tournament in which Spain was eliminated in the quarter-finals by eventual winners England.
