Sadio Mane came in second place in the 66th edition of the Ballon d’Or, trailing only Karim Benzema.
Mane had another productive season with Liverpool, finishing as Premier League runners-up and Champions League finalists in what proved to be his final season at Anfield.
The Senegal forward, who won the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year, joined Bayern Munich in the summer after finishing the season with 23 goals and five assists in all competitions.
In addition to finishing second, Mane received the Socrates award on the night for his outstanding humanitarian work off the field. In his home country, he has become synonymous with incredible charitable work.
Mane scored in both legs of Liverpool’s Champions League semi-final against Villarreal, propelling them to the final and setting up a rematch with Real Madrid.
He also scored and assisted for Senegal against Burkina Faso in the AFCON semi-finals, leading his country to victory.
In what was a difficult season for Liverpool and Mane as they competed for silverware on four fronts, the 30-year-old finished particularly strong and proved his worth as a centre forward as well as a winger, demonstrating his exceptional ability once again.
