JoJo Wollacott Reportedly Ruled Out Of World Cup

Black Stars goalkeeper, Joseph Wollacott’s, World Cup run is in danger of getting halted even before it starts, as a reported finger injury the shot stopper picked up recently has been confirmed.

Wollacott, was replaced as a starter in goal for Charlton Athletic 12 minutes before the League One side’s 3-3 draw with Burton Albion after picking up the injury during warmups.

According to SportsWorldGhana, Wollacott’s finger injury is severe enough to rule him out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. This year’s World Cup commences on Sunday, November 20.

Wollacott was named in Ghana’s 55 man provisional squad for the World Cup but his availability is up in the air after picking up the injury.

Ghana’s World Cup squad will be announced on Monday, November 14 by head coach Otto Addo.

Charlton head coach Ben Garner touched on the injury situation stating, “He was disappointed before the game and was frustrated by it. He is a bit more positive in there now and we’re really hopeful it’s positive news” according to Daily Mail.

Wollacott’s injury comes at a time Ghana is sweating over the fitness of fellow goalkeeper Richard Ofori who missed Orlando Pirates Black Label Cup on Saturday.

Defensive midfielder Baba Idrissu suffered a knock in Real Mallorca’s 1-0 win over Atletico Madrid. He was an unused substitute in Mallorca’s 6-0 win over Autol in the first round of games in the Copa Del Rey.

Like Wollacott, Ofori and Iddrissu were named in the provisional list and were heavily tipped to make the main squad to represent Ghana at the World Cup.
