Asake Condoles With Family Of Deceased Concertgoer

 

A Nigerian artiste, Ahmed Ololade, professionally known as Asake, has expressed his condolence to the family of Rebecca Ikumelo, a concertgoer who died after a crowd crush at the singer’s event in London.

The concert which held at 02 Academy, Brixton, on Thursday was cancelled midway after fans, many of whom did not have tickets, attempted to gain access into the venue by breaching the doors.

Four people were critically injured and four others were also hospitalised.

The police and other emergency service providers were called to the O2 Academy in Brixton at 9:35 pm following reports “that a large number of people were attempting to force entry to the venue.”

On Saturday, Ololade shared the tragic news on his Twitter account, expressing his condolences to the deceased’s family and asking for prayers for them.

“I am devastated by the news that Rebecca Ikumelo who was in a critical condition since Thursday has sadly passed away,” he tweeted.

“My sincerest condolences to her loved ones at this time. Let us please keep her family in our prayers. I have spoken to them and will continue to do so.

“I am overwhelmed with grief and could never have imagined anything like this happening.”

The Joha crooner also requested fans to provide any information about the incident to the police

“My team and are still awaiting the full debrief back from the venue management and the police to determine what exactly led to all the disruption caused and ultimately to Rebecca’s passing.

“If you have any relevant information relating to this, please do reach out to the Metropolitan Police. Thank you,” he said.

The renowned events centre, O2 Academy, also expressed its condolences via Twitter.

The statement read, “All at O2 Academy Brixton and Academy Music Group are deeply saddened by the news of the tragic death of Rebecca Ikumelo.

“We send our heartfelt condolences to Rebecca’s family and friends, and our thoughts are with everyone affected by this devastating news at this extremely difficult time.”
