Cardi B has revealed the moment she and husband Offset found out rapper Takeoff had been killed last November.
The star, who was a member of Migos alongside Offset and Quavo, was shot in an incident in a Houston bowling alley. He was pronounced dead at the scene at the age of 28.
Speaking to the Jason Lee Podcast this week, the I Like It rapper, 30, recalled hearing the news. She said her and husband Offset, 31, were supposed to be attending a Halloween party in New York held by La La Anthony, but their four-year-old daughter Kulture had been sick all over her costume.
She said: "We just fell asleep and out of nowhere, Offset's phone kept ringing, my phone kept ringing. Offset picked up the phone and he’s just like, ‘No!’ And he's screaming and screaming. And I’m like, ‘What’s going on?’ He’s like, ‘Takeoff is dead'."
The star, whose real name is Belcalis Maerlenis Almánzar Cephus, said she then "smacked" her man shouting at him not to say things like that.
She continued: "He’s just like screaming, throwing things, throwing up, running all over. I was just so scared. I was just crying so much. It was terrible."
As the news was confirmed, Cardi said the mood became extremely sombre in the home. "It was just such a sensitive time in my home," she confessed.
"I feel like everything was so triggering. It was a lot."
Following Takeoff's death, Offset - also known as Kiari Kenfrell Cephus - shared a heartfelt tribute to his bandmate and cousin.
Taking to Instagram at the time, he wrote: "My heart is shattered and I have so many things to say, but I can’t find the words. I’ve been going to sleep and waking up hoping that all of this is a dream, but it’s reality, and reality feels like a nightmare."
Cardi previously admitted she has felt "hopeless" as she tried to console her husband.
Speaking to the Neighborhood Talk, she said: "We don’t want no sympathy. We ain’t no charity case, but no lie, I have been feeling so hopeless trying to make my husband happy, Trying to make him crack a smile."
