AS Roma has confirmed that manager José Mourinho and his team have left the club.
Mourinho took over Roma before of the 2021/22 season, leading them to Europa Conference League triumph in his first season, and finishing runners-up to Sevilla in the Europa League last season, losing on penalties.
However, following a disastrous first half of the 2023/24 season, Roma have opted to split ways with Mourinho, confirming his dismissal in a statement on Tuesday morning.
The statement read: "AS Roma announces that Jose Mourinho and his technical collaborators will depart the club effective immediately.
"Mourinho was announced as the sixtieth manager in Roma's history in May 2021."He guided the squad to the Conference League title in Tirana on May 25, 2022, and to the Europa League final in Budapest the previous season."
Roma owners Dan and Ryan Friedkin added: "We appreciate Jose on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for the dedication and devotion he has demonstrated since joining the Giallorossi.
"We will always cherish our memories of his leadership, but we believe that rapid change is required for the Club's sake.
"We wish Jose and his collaborators the best for the future."
