In the early hours of Friday, September 6, 2024, a devastating accident occurred on the Mim-Goaso road in the Ahafo Region of Ghana, claiming the lives of eight individuals and leaving many others in critical condition. The accident involved a mini-bus transporting over 50 workers from a Chinese plywood company, Infixwood, based in the region.
The incident took place between 5:30 and 6:00 a.m., and according to reports, the bus was en route to its destination when it was involved in the fatal crash. The cause of the accident is still under investigation, but the loss of life and the number of injuries have left the local community in shock and mourning.
Senior Nurse Specialist Vera Sebea from Goaso Government Hospital, where the victims were rushed, confirmed the tragic outcome. As of 12:00 p.m., eight victims, six males and two females, had succumbed to their injuries. The remaining 42 victims were brought to the hospital with varying degrees of injuries, many of whom remain in a high-risk state, though their conditions are reportedly stable. Some of the critically injured have been transferred to nearby hospitals for further treatment.
Nurse Sebea expressed her concerns, stating that while many of the victims are stable, the hospital is working diligently to provide care for those in critical condition. "We are doing everything we can to stabilize the situation, but the trauma caused by the accident has severely affected some of the victims."
The local authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. Road safety continues to be a pressing concern in the Ahafo Region, and incidents like this highlight the need for stricter regulations and better road infrastructure to prevent such tragedies.
