As Ghana’s presidential and legislative elections concluded on December 7, 2024, early results indicate a significant lead for former President John Dramani Mahama over Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia.
Mahama, representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC), is projected to secure approximately 52.7% of the vote, while Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) trails with 40.1%.
This outcome aligns with pre-election polls that favoured Mahama.
A survey by Global InfoAnalytics conducted between October 28 and November 2, 2024, predicted a decisive victory for Mahama, with Bawumia trailing by nearly 20 percentage points.
The election was held amid Ghana’s worst economic crisis in a generation, characterized by extreme inflation and high unemployment rates.
Voter turnout was reported to be low, with early results showing a significant lead for Mahama.
