Ghanaian actor, businessman, and politician John Dumelo has shaken the political landscape with his announcement of a likely victory in the Ayawaso West Wuogon parliamentary race. Representing the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC),
Dumelo’s projected win would mark the first time in 24 years that the NDC has captured the seat in this constituency.
“With 13 polling stations to go, I can confidently say we have won the Ayawaso West Wuogon seat for the first time in 24 years,” Dumelo declared in an Instagram post on Sunday, December 8, 2024, expressing optimism ahead of official results.
The announcement follows a fiercely contested election against the incumbent, Hon. Lydia Alhassan of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP). The constituency has long been considered a stronghold of the NPP, but Dumelo’s campaign appears to have resonated with younger voters and a diverse electorate, leveraging creative outreach strategies.
Social media platforms have since been flooded with congratulatory messages from NDC supporters and political enthusiasts.
