Thomas Partey has reportedly rejected the Black Stars deputy captaincy to focus maily on his performance for Ghana.
The 31-year-old informed Coach Otto Addo and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) of his decision, choosing to serve the team without an official leadership title.
Partey, a key figure for both Arsenal and Ghana, may have made this choice to avoid additional responsibilities.
Fenerbahçe defender Alexander Djiku is now expected to take the role, further solidifying his leadership within the squad.
Regardless of stepping away from the deputy captaincy, Partey remains key to Ghana’s 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign. The Black Stars will face Chad at home on March 17 before journeying to Morocco to play Madagascar.
