696 Ghanaians Died Through Road Accidents In The First Quarter Of 2019 : MTTD Reports

Road accidents happen as a result of many factors including poor road conditions, recklessness, and carelessness by drivers.

Data compiled by the Motor Traffic and Transport Department of the Ghana Police Service shows that about 696 died in road traffic accidents in the first three months of 2019.

The accident in the first quarter of 2019 recorded a 17.57% increase over figures for the first quarter of 2018.

Commuters and pedestrians killed increased from 592 in the first quarter of 2018 to 696 in the same period of 2019.

The number of motorcycles involved in road traffic accidents witnessed an 11.82% jump from 956 in the first quarter of 2018 to 1,069 during the same period in 2019.

Motorcycle accidents killed 169 and injured 718 commuters in the first quarter of 2019.

A total of 2,387 private vehicles were involved in accidents in the first quarter of this year, an increase of 7.81% compared to the involvement of 2,214 private vehicles in the first quarter of last year.

Accidents involving private vehicles killed 201 commuters in the first quarter of this year while injuring 841.

The number of commercial vehicles involved in accidents recorded a 3.40% decline from 2,175 in 2018 to 2,101 in the first quarter of this year.

Commercial vehicles involved in accidents killed 326 people and injured 1,980 in the first quarter of 2019.

The total number of accident cases reported in the first quarter of 2019 witnessed an increase of 6.95% from 3,193 in 2018 to 3,415 this year.

The total number of vehicles involved in accidents in the first quarter rose from 5,345 in 2018 to 5,557 in 2019, representing a 3.97% increase.

The regional breakdown of deaths includes: Accra – 69, Tema – 38, Eastern – 108, Central – 45, Western – 38, Ashanti – 113, Volta – 34, Northern – 59, Upper West – 19, Upper East – 28, and Brong Ahafo – 145.

Top 100 Women CEOs In Africa Inaugural List Announced By Reset Global People And Avance Media

Reset Global People in partnership with Pulse and Avance Media has announced the inaugural list of the Top 100 Women CEOs in Africa, a ranking that highlights and recognizes the accomplishments of women CEOs from across 24 countries across the continent.

The TOP 100 Women CEOs in Africa is compiled by Reset Global People and Pulse editors with support from the PR and Ranking Agency; Avance Media, who consider four criteria: the size and importance of the woman-led business in the economy, the health and direction of the business, the arc of the woman’s career (résumé and runway ahead), and social and cultural influence. Eligibility is also based on the geolocation of the business.

With the belief that recognition of excellence inspires innovation in each sector, the list is to recognize and celebrate the performance and excellence of peak women performers in the limitless business world across the vast continent of Africa.

It is an acknowledgement and appreciation of the women leaders who introduce innovation and lead the change. CEOs, GMs, MDs and personalities with executive roles in the businesses or organizations are the focus of the list.
According to Kwame A. A. Opoku, CEO of Reset Global People, the nomination of these distinguished women is in relation to their works and accomplishments as the leader of their team which continues to inspire the next generation of women CEOs in Africa and across the world in alignment with SDGs Goal 5 & 10.

Detailing the criteria used in curating the list, Prince Akpah, MD of Avance Media mentioned that the list highlights profit, impact and sustainability and the overall influence of the individual women over their sector, industry and community as a whole.

With representation from 24 countries, the list features women who are noted to have broken the glass ceiling from across diverse sectors, making a name and case for women leaders on the continent.

As part of the list, Reset Global People will be hosting the annual African Women CEOs Summit scheduled for Lagos, Nigeria in 2020.

The list features some prominent names including Isabel dos Santos, Juliet Anammah, Tara Fela-Durotoye, Patricia Obo-Nai, Nasim Devji, Estelle Akofio-Sowah, Uche Eze and Linda Ikeji.

One guy who has the username @oswaldtheson stood out among all the people posting their betting slips on their timelines. Oswald, whose bio reads not an Osofo, banker, digital solutions architect, budding lawyer, rapper and founder.

Oswald posted 4 different betting combinations and all the slips had impressive wins.

Moments after his slips went viral, the entire Ghana Twitter community started asking for more of Oswald’s betting tips.

He then created a Telegram page to give his followers the tips they so much desire. Within the first few hours, Oswald had over 4,000 people in the Telegram group.

The number jumped to over 18,000 on Thursday morning as it keeps growing with more people joining by the minute.

Betting has been a controversial discussion in Ghana as people think gambling will not set the youth on a good path. A section of the youth also believes this is the perfect antidote to a good lifestyle in a country where the unemployment rate is high.

Twitter has revealed that the Spanish champions, Barcelona were the most tweeted about sports team in the world in 2019.

Barca pipped their arch-rival Real Madrid and Premiership clubs, Manchester United, and Liverpool, to scoop the top spot.

The only non-football team to make it into the top 10 are NBA side the Los Angeles Lakers, who signed superstar LeBron James in 2018.
