Akon Plans To Host Major Concert In Ghana In March

Aliaume Damala Badara Akon, known in the world music as Akon, has announced plans of hosting a major musical concert in Ghana in March this year.

The venue of the concert, date as well as Ghanaian and other international artistes to be featured would be announced soon.

The concert ‒ which is being organised to entertain fans of the Senegalese artiste in Ghana and Africa ‒ would be used to officially launch Akon’s ‘Akonda’ album.

After the March concert, Akon would embark on a music tour to some selected African countries, which is aimed at projecting Africa and highlighting business opportunities in Africa to the rest of the world.

The rapper, who is promoting his ‘Akonda’ Afrobeat album, was in Ghana in December as part of the ‘Year of Return’, which has seen many African-Americans in Ghana.

Speaking at a press conference held at the Movenpick Hotel in Accra, Akon stated that he would continue to promote and spearhead developments across Africa and also invest in artistes from Africa.

He urged Africans in the Diaspora to invest their talent and resources in Africa to help rebuild the continent.

“The ‘Year of Return’ adopted by Ghana was a good initiative that would strengthen ties with the Africans in the Diaspora and also mark new beginnings that would trigger growth of Ghana and the continent as whole.

It’s feels good to be back and it’s more exciting to realise that the United States is paying more attention to Africa. Sometimes as an African-America you feel something is missing until you come back to Africa to find that missing puzzle and know your true history,” he said.

He, however, lauded the efforts of Hollywood star Boris Cudjoe who has played a crucial role in making the ‘Year of Return’ a great success.

He also advised Ghanaians to make a conscious effort in supporting and promoting artistes from the country to the rest of the world.

“If Ghanaians don’t promote their own artiste like how Nigerians promote their own artistes, it’s no secret if you stay silent and you keep it within Ghana, it’s going to stay in Ghana. So, you got to promote your artiste, people that you believe in that can represent your country, let everybody know about that person,” he added.

Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine Released From Jail Over Coronavirus Fears

Tekashi 6ix9ine

American rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine was released early Thursday afternoon into house arrest over fears that his chronic asthma puts him in the high-risk category of contracting Coronavirus.

“He’s out and he’s very happy to be released,” his defense attorney, Lance Lazzaro, told NBC News after Judge Paul A. Engelmayer granted his motion for compassionate release.

Citing safety concerns, Lazzaro declined to reveal where Tekashi would stay for the final four months of his two-year sentence.

The 23-year-old rapper, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, had been serving a 24-month sentence after pleading guilty to nine charges including conspiracy to murder and armed robbery at an upstate New York prison. He has already served 13 months of his two-year sentence, and was due to be released in August 2020.

The decision to release him to home confinement comes as New York City is battling the spread of the coronavirus, including in prisons and jails with at least 180 cases of coronavirus already confirmed at several jails in the City.

According to NME, 6ix9ine will serve his first four months of home incarceration with supervision, which will be enforced by GPS monitoring. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, he will have to stay at his residence unless he asks permission from the probation department to seek medical treatment or talk with his lawyer.
