Incoming Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has stated that he is ready to tackle the club’s massive managerial problem and return it to its former glory.
Manchester United have not won the Premier League since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013, with only the FA Cup, Community Shield, and Europa League titles sandwiched between the 7 managers who have led the club since then.
The club will also miss out on Champions League football next season, despite the presence of stars such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Paul Pogba, Rafael Varane, and Marcus Rashford.
The Dutch tactician, who led Ajax to another Erendivisie title on Wednesday, May 11, told Voetbal International that he is confident of restoring the club’s glory days.
Ten Hag stated that his first contact with United officials occurred during the March international break when asked when he decided to leave Ajax.
“It was a difficult but exciting challenge.” That is the most lovely thing in the world. United has something to build and something to gain. Manchester United is a household name in football. Getting the club back on track to win feels like a challenge.
“There’s a reason why Old Trafford is known as the Theatre of Dreams.” In international football, it is a club with a name, fame, and allure. Everyone is familiar with the beautiful teams’ history. Of course, Sir Alex Ferguson, but also further back in time. The great team of the late 1950s, which vanished with the plane crash.
“The history is fascinating, but I also became interested in the present and the future.” And the alternatives available. They are also financially present. If you have a good feeling about the people there, the picture is complete, and the factors are in place to proceed.”
Haag responded when asked about the club’s first contact with him.
“It wasn’t that long ago,” the former Utrecht and Bayern Munich reserves manager explained.
“They also knew a lot about me.” They had conducted scouting, analysis, data collection, and interviews with people who had worked with me. From there, several rounds of discussion ensued. So they didn’t make a snap decision. I didn’t either.
“Those conversations were so good that I felt compelled to accept the challenge.” Then it began to take shape in my mind, and I made the decision to leave Ajax.”
