Isis leader who burned pilot alive in a cage is finally caught

Officials in Iraq used the mobile phone of an already captured Isis leader to lure the group to the country from Syria, it has emerged.

Al-Jamal masterminded the killing of downed pilot Muath al-Kasasbeh, 26, in 2015, authorities in Jordan say.

The Royal Jordanian Air Force pilot was shot down in Raqqa, Syria, in December 2014.

Isis released a video a few weeks later of the pilot being burned alive in a cage. Al-Jamal has been accused of taking part in a massacre in Syria in 2014, which killed 700 members of a tribe that rose up against Isis

He is also said to have ordered the execution of children, often in front of their parents.

And in 2014, Iraqi officials claimed al-Jamal had murdered an entire family after the parents prevented the daughter from marrying him.

President Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has received the 2018 Outstanding Leader’s Award, given to him by the United States Chamber of Commerce and its U.S. Africa Business Centre.

Receiving the award on Monday, 24th September 2018, President Akufo-Addo noted that “it is good to know that advocating for Ghana to opt for a partnership with the rest of the world on the basis of trade and investment co-operation, not aid, has its rewards.”

In his acceptance remarks, the President stated that the receipt of the award represents a summary of his focus as Ghana’s President, since assuming the reins of office some 21 months ago.

Akufo-Addo Outstanding Leaders Award

“I have sought not only to strengthen my country’s democratic credentials but also to help create wealth and provide opportunities for its people,” he added.

Ghana, like most countries in Africa, the President said, is blessed with an abundance of human and natural resources, but has, however, over the years, been heavily reliant on the production and export of these natural resources, in their raw form.

Akufo-Addo Outstanding Leaders Award

“We have also not taken deliberate steps to create an educated workforce to spur on the development of our country. Unsurprisingly, we have not been able to bring sufficient progress and prosperity to the mass of Ghanaians. This sad state of affairs has deepened our reliance on aid, charity and handouts, thereby, making us vulnerable to the politics of foreign powers,” he said.

President Akufo-Addo told the gathering that his government has decided to buck this trend, as it is the only way his government can bring wealth to the Ghanaian people, and halt the dynamic of young men and women leaving the country in search of non-existent greener pastures abroad.

“We want, thus, to emulate the paths to prosperity taken by countries that have become today’s success stories, especially those of Asia,” the President added.

Nana Appiah Mensah Insults Joy News’ Israel Laryea For Trying To Ruin His Business | WATCH

Published

on

The Menzold ‘wahala’ seems not to be ending anytime soon as more issues pop up day in and day out.

Reports circulating on the internet stipulates that Nana Appiah Mensah’s Menzgold in the UK seems to be fake.

Well in a recent report filed by Israel Laryea of Joy News, the UK branch of menzgold showed that it does not operate the same business model.

The report also revealed that Menzgold London office is without the usual highly visible displays the company is known for in Ghana.

However, the report by Israel Laryea has infuriated the CEO of Menzgold , Nana Appiah Mensah as he took to his Instagram handle to lambast the journalist.

Nana Appiah on his Instagram page shared a photo of Israel Laryea and lost his cool by saying: ” Today I celebrate your stupidity and retarded madness“.

Meanwhile, The Securities and Exchange Commission, SEC wrote to Menzgold Ghana Company, to shut down all investment trading in gold.

In the 3 September 2018 letter signed by Deputy Director General, Paul Ababio, the SEC said: “In September 2017, the SEC issued a public notice indicating that it does not regulate Menzgold. The SEC began further investigations into the activities of Menzgold in July 2018. In August 2018, the Commission called for an inter-sectoral meeting that involved the Minerals Commission, Bank of Ghana and the Securities and Exchange Commission. The Meeting concluded that it is evident Menzgold’s activities appear to go beyond the mandate authorised in its licence”.

The SEC said: “It is our expectation that being your licencee, MINCOM, would call Menzgold to order and direct it to conduct its business in accordance with the licence issued to it by MINCOM”.

The September 3, 2018 letter from SEC stated added that failure by Menzgold to comply with the directive “will lead to the SEC employing other relevant measures under the law to enforce compliance.”

However, in a quick response yesterday, September 12, 2018, Menzgold Ghana Company has severely criticized and rejected as worthless, a letter issued to them by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) directing them to shut down all investment trading in gold.

A statement from the management of Menzgold says the letter from the SEC is “needless, in bad faith” and “distasteful”, as they were cooperating with the commission to arrive at a cordial resolution to matters relating to their operations.

BoG To Close Down Insolvent Savings And Loans Companies

Published

on

Savings and Loans Companies that are in serious financial distress would soon be shut down, Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr Ernest Addison has disclosed.

Dr Addison made the revelation during a meeting with Journalists after meeting to review the health of the Economy last week.

Background

Some of the savings and loans companies are said to be in a “sorry financial state” as a result of the panic withdrawals that has hit most of them.

The panic withdrawals are largely a spillover effect from challenges in the banking sector.

Some of the Savings and Loans Companies had told Joy Business that the mass withdrawals had been heightened by fears that they could collapse because of their close links with some local banks that were recently shut down by the Central Bank.

Meanwhile, the challenges facing the Savings and Loans sector remain fluid as the companies are unable to recover the loans given out.

Request for financial support

The Association of Savings Companies recently petitioned the Bank of Ghana to support some of their members said to be in financial distress.

The Executive Secretary of the Association, Tweneboa Kodua Boakye, had explained to Joy Business that the petition to support the troubled firms was to prevent most of them from going down.

Reasons for Bank of Ghana’s action

According to the Governor of the Bank actions taken so far to stabilise the banking sector would not be different from the Savings and Loan Companies.

He added that it is critical to allow Savings and Loans Companies that are in good standing are allowed to operate.

He added that “If these Savings and Loans institutions are insolvent, they would have to be liquidated because that is the solution for insolvent financial institutions.”

The way forward

The Bank of Ghana is currently engaging the Finance Ministry on how to deal with the depositors of the Savings and Loans Companies before it goes ahead to liquidate them.

“The engagement would ensure that the necessary funds can be raised on the part of the government to cushion depositors of these institutions. It believed that this could one of the tough measures that that regulator is planning to take to sanitize the entire industry,” the Governor said.
