K.O.D

It’s time for music’s biggest night! The Vodafone Ghana Music Awards is almost here and the host for the main show which comes off on Saturday, May 18th, 2019 has been announced and it’s non-other than EIB’s own, Kofi Okyere Darko (K.O.D)

Ace broadcaster and host of Starr Drive on Starr 103.5 FM, K.OD, will be hosting the special 20th edition of the VGMA’S.

Speaking to starrfm.com.gh KOD an excited KOD said:

“I think 20’years is a big celebration and getting those who were part of it from day one is a step in the right direction. Good news is we’re all still around and jointly sharing that stage and our stories from the last 20 years would also enhance the event. Ghanaians should expect fabulously fun moments when I get on.”

KOD’s selection as the host for the special 20th edition comes as no surprise as he has played pivotal roles in the success of the awards scheme over the years, right from its inception in 1999.

KOD served on the selection committee right from its foundation. He was also for a few years the producer of the Ghana Music Awards countdown radio show as well as the first ever red carpet show host.

He added, “I started from being part of the selection committee, first red carpet host, hosted the GMA countdown on TV, industry awards, the main event and now a member of the academy.”

It would be no surprise however if personalities like Kwame Sefa Kayi, Doreen Andoh, etc who were highly involved in the success of the show right from the beginning are brought on the august stage since the show is celebrating a milestone.

What you need to know about KOD

KOD first worked as a production assistant for a TV show on GBC for a short period of time and later left to join Accra- based Radio Gold. After two years of living in England, he came back to Ghana to continue working with Radio Gold.
He joined EIB Network’s Live FM as a Presenter and Events & Marketing Manager in August 2015, and subsequently became the host of Starr FM’s mid-morning show ‘The Zone.’

KOD then moved on to, and is still the host of Starr FM’s Starr Drive, following a reshuffling.

Missed Samini’s Virtual Concert? WATCH It Here Again

Published

Samini is a name to fear in Ghana when it comes to live performances. With a career spanning 2 decades and still counting, Emmanuel Andrews Samini, has outlived himself only the music circles to an appreciable level that fans and critics put him in a “Living Legend” Status.

Beating the odds and raising the bar even higher for his contemporaries last weekend on Saturday, May 30, 2020, he performed for almost 3 hours with live band straight from Canada.

Dubbed “SAMINI’s Untamed Virtual Concert”, the celebrated proud Dagaati Youth Chief (Pebilii Naa, Samini), rocked audience across the world with swooning Vocals and melodies song after song from his international award winning and Billboard.com charting album “Untamed” — a strictly one drop (Reggae) Album he released on December 22, 2018.

Samini wouldn’t do a full live band set without veering into some of his timeless classics. He wove through finely crafted melodies of some of his old songs to current singles as well and it all felt like he had a full live audience before him but all was streamed over the Internet. Dozens of plausible comments registered from the live stream and after the show by fans and critics on social media. Below is what you missed, you can still watch it here.

Samini has been ‘locked up’ in quarantine in Canada (with his family) since March 2020 during the corona virus pandemic and since hasn’t returned. The virtual concert came right in time to serenade his fans who’ve been starved for a while now. You can stream his “UNTAMED” Album here: http://smarturl.it/fbgca5

Below are some of the photos from his power-packed virtual concert to close the month of May.
