There is a saying that cleanliness is next to Godliness, but it is sad to notice that the people of Kumasi can no longer use this adage when they talk about their garden city.
The daily cleaning of our environment, proper disposal of refuse, etc. contributes a lot to our sanitation.
Kumasi is the capital of the Ashanti Region and one of the fastest and growing urban areas in Ghana.
Kumasi was named ‘Garden City’ because of its beautiful, clean and green environment they boast themselves of. However, the garden city has now turned to the city of garbage due to the negligence of the citizens towards their sanitation.
Sanitation refers to the maintenance and delivery of clean, hygienic conditions that help prevent disease through services such as drinking water supply, garbage collection and safe disposal of human waste. Kumasi as a city has performed badly in the aspect of sanitation due to many factors.
Bad attitudes of his inhabitants, lack of education on the importance of sanitation, inappropriate planning by local authorities and government agencies in charge of sanitation, failure to enforce sanitation laws by the government and other stakeholders are some of the factors that result to poor sanitation in the city.
Sawaba, Alabar, Asawase and Aboabo station are some of the areas in Kumasi with poor sanitation. The place is being flooded with refuse all over. Interactions with a few people from there throw more light on how they lack education on sanitation.
Some of these people blamed the government for not enforcing sanitation laws in the country. Others also said they had no choice than to litter around because all dustbin and garbage cans close to the area are full to the brim and it has been like that for almost a year now.
Due to this, all open gutters are choked with solid waste. This blocks the drainage of water when it rains and this result to the water being stagnant and becoming a breeding place for mosquitoes.
The people suggested that there should be public education on sanitation and waste management.
Again, the existing laws should be enforced, and people who litter around should be punished. They also suggested that the government should introduce systems and methods of recycling of waste. Open gutters should also be closed. Sanitation workers should be employed, motivated and seen value in the sector. Adequate waste carriage bins and vehicles should be provided and they should be emptied as soon as they are full.
In conclusion, sanitation in Kumasi is very poor which needs much attention to be paid in other to curb this challenge.
The government and its agencies, as well as the local authorities, must pay attention to its causes and effects on the people and the city as well and solutions stated above to help them plan properly on sanitation issues.
It’s Not Wrong For A Lady To Accept A Proposal From A Married Man : Counselor Lutterodt Claims
Counselor George Lutterodt, the controversial Ghanaian pastor/relationship counselor never ceases to amaze his followers and listeners with some of his ridiculous teachings.
The latest from Counselor George Lutterodt is that it is never wrong to accept a proposal from a married man if you are a lady.
According to Counselor Lutterodt, ladies who are interested in married men have been kept in check and held back with the false threats that Karma will visit them. He stated emphatically that there is nothing like Karma when it comes to dating married men.
Instead, Counselor Lutterodt revealed that most married women have dated a married man before and they did not return the properties they got from the affair when they broke it off and finally married.
But, they will be making jabs and issuing threats to ladies not to date married men now that they themselves are married.
Counselor Lutterodt encouraged young ladies to go all out and date whoever they want even if the person is married and more especially if he is rich.
The controversial Ghanaian celebrity critic was speaking on TV Africa Morning Show on Thursday, 22nd August 2019 when he made the bold assertions.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain Agrees New Long-Term Deal With Liverpool Until 2023
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has signed a new long-term contract until 2023 with European champions, Liverpool.
The England winger, 26, who joined Liverpool from Arsenal for £35million in 2017 has scored five goals in 47 games for the club.
Chamberlain returned to first-team football at the end of last season after suffering a serious knee injury in April 2018.
On inking the long-term deal, he told Liverpoolfc.com: ‘I’m really, really excited – it’s been in the pipeline for a little while, so it’s nice to finally get it done and just extend my time here, which I am really looking forward to.
‘I feel like I missed out on a year, which I obviously did, so it’s really exciting for me to be able to sign. It’s something that I feel is an opportunity to give that year back and make up for lost time – and hopefully put in some good performances to make amends for not being around last year.
‘You’ve got to count your blessings every time you get an opportunity like this, you don’t get the chance to play for Liverpool Football Club every day. I am really excited to be able to extend my time here.’
‘I can promise the supporters that I’ll give them absolutely everything moving forward,’ he added.
‘There might be times where I have bad games and good games and moments where it’s not so good, but I’ll always work through those moments and give my everything to correct them and keep pushing this team forward.
‘I hope that I can do some special things like I did before I got injured and, most of all, be a part of this group of players that go on to hopefully win more things.
‘I’m really excited to see what the future holds for us all and I look forward to seeing them every game moving forward.’
