‘Mob Wives’ Star Angela ‘Big Ang’ Raiola Dies At 55

Published

on

Angela “Big Ang” Raiola, star of VH1 reality show Mob Wives, died early Thursday morning at 55. She died in a New York City hospital among friends and family, after nearly a year-long battle with throat cancer.

Raiola’s family broke the news of her death to her fans from her Twitter account, writing that she had “peacefully ended her battle with cancer.”

“YOU (fans) were some of the most special people in her world, and she loved you immensely,” the statement attached to the tweet reads. “Thank you for your love, prayers, and unconditional support of Angela right to the end.”

The reality star was diagnosed in March 2015 with throat cancer that later spread to her brain and lung. When she revealed the news to her fans via Facebook, she encouraged them to take charge of their own personal health.

“Always look after yourselves and don’t neglect your health,” she wrote in April of 2015. “I’m fortunate and blessed to have discovered something very early, and handle it in a positive manner. I thank you and I love you all from the bottom of my heart.”

Raiola opened up about her battle in a pre-taped appearance in a February 2016 episode of the Dr. Oz show.

In the tearful interview she said that her family is what kept her going through her disease. “”I look at my kids and my grandchildren and I know how much they need me,” she told the host. She also explained that she had twice been declared cancer-free, only to have it return and spread to other areas of her body. “Sometimes I feel I’m gonna be fine, and sometimes I just don’t think I am,” she admitted.

She also discussed the fact that she had been a cigarette smoker for 40 years, which her doctors had cited as “positively” the cause of her illness. She explained that she immediately quit after her diagnosis, and made a plea for others to quit smoking or prevent themselves from starting in the first place.

Her sister and brother-in-law had been supporting her during her illness, Raiola said on the show, but she added that her husband, Neil Murphy, was no longer part of her life.

Raiola, nicknamed Big Ang for her nearly 6-foot height, was a popular cast member on Mob Wives, despite not actually being a “mob wife.” Her connection to that world was through her uncle, the late Salvatore “Sally Dogs” Lombardi, a reputed captain of the Genovese crime family. But despite that she was known as a peacemaker on the show, helping other cast members through disputes. Her popularity led to her getting her own spin-off reality show, Big Ang, which was later retooled as Miami Monkey, although neither version of the show was on the air very long.

Raiola lived with her daughter Raquel’s family on New York’s Staten Island, where she ran the Drunken Monkey bar. Many members of her family, including her son, Anthony, and her sister, Janine, appeared alongside her on her various shows.

As of Thursday morning, funeral arrangements were pending.

Court Case: The Deafening Silence Of Black Sherif And His Investor

Published

on

What is the latest on Black Sherif’s court issue with his investor, Shadrach Agyei Owusu (Chavis)?

Well, Ghana Weekend has been following up on the matter. At least we need to get our audience updated on the issue since it is of great interest to many.

The case

On 11th April 2022, a writ of summons by the plaintiff, Shadrach Agyei Owusu, requesting that Ghanaian artiste Black Sherif be prevented from performing at events without his consent, was sighted by the media.

Shadrack requested an order for the preservation of all funds accrued from Black Sherif’s online streams.

Shadrach Agyei Owusu, the Chief Executive Officer of Waynes Chavis Consult, wanted a receiver to be taking the proceeds of all funds that would be accrued from the activities of the defendant.

This happened at a time when Black Sherif’s latest song ‘Kwaku The Traveller’ was topping global charts, making him the most sought-after artiste in Ghana in recent times.

Why was Black Sherif sued?

This suit came on the back of claims that Black Sherif had neglected his investor after he had injected funds into his career.

Black Sherif was reported to have signed a distribution deal with Empire Music without the consent of his investor, who purportedly had a business management contract with him.

The contract required that Black Sherif conducted all his activities through the investor who came on board to help the artiste.

Court day: May 9, 2022

This was the date set for the court hearing on the matter. So far, little information has been gathered about what became of that particular hearing.

While some of our sources say the case was not called at all, others say, it was deferred to a later date.

Ghana Weekend has tried scooping some information from both sides of the issue, but they are unwilling to really give details of the current situation of this suit.

Our interest

Ordinarily, this should be none of our business, but Ghana Weekend, as a media organisation, is interested in streamlining all facets of the entertainment industry. We saw this matter as a test case of many cracks in artiste-manager deals in the country. We are not on a mission of waking up sleeping dogs. We want precedence to be set for posterity.

Currently, Black Sherif is minding his music business, making money for himself, and growing his music career. Shadrack on the other hand is going about his work. They are both silent about the issue like nothing happened.

Maybe they have squashed their matter in private. Maybe Ghana Weekend is impatient with the outcome of the court hearing.

Maybe, our dear readers need to keep their eyes glued to our platforms as we nose out all details on this matter in our subsequent episodes.

We’ll be back!
