Nana Tuffour

Highlife music legend, Nana Tuffour, aka 9-9-2-4 has given the current crop of highlife sensational musicians Kidi, Kuami Eugene and King Promise what can be described as quality advice to make their music eternal imprinted in the minds of many Ghanaians.

In an interview Nana Tuffour, he told Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM that even though these young musicians are doing well in the music industry, they should pay attention to their lyrics if they desire to be remembered for forever by Ghanaian highlife music lovers.

“…King Promise, Kidi, Kuami Eugene, I like their reflexes and voices. What is left with them is the lyrics. They don’t elaborate, that brings in the passion, so the songs never die. If you sing in a simple manner, people will dance and have the feel but it didn’t come from your heart…The lyrics should always be explained further so people can relate it to life…” he stated.

Nana Tuffour kicked off his musical journey with one of the axes popularly known as one man thousand with keyboardist Alex Konadu. He later joined the Wanto Wazuri Band as a pianist. Due to his sweet voice and unique style of vocalizing, Nana later became the front man of the Waza Africo Band.

Envisioning a solo album, Nana left for Nigeria where he began working with famous Nigerian musician King Sunny Ade as his keyboardist.

In 1979 he released his first album Highlife Romance and has since released twelve other hit albums. He has won many excellence awards and his last album, Abeiku was notoriously popular among the old and the young.
