My Father Composed "Ama Ghana" Song: Son Of Late Guitarist Smart Frimpong Speaks As Family Announces Sit-Down

Entertainment industrialist and CEO of Salt Media Group, Bobby Frimpong has eulogized his late father, Smart Frimpong with a record specific fact, saying that his beloved father composed the famous “Ama Ghana” song that was sang by Opambuor.

“The song Ama Ghana by Opambuor was made by my father. His music career span over 40 years” — Bobby told Kelly Nii Lartey Mensah, a Ghanaian entertainment curator in an exclusive interview from the UK.

This comes after a traditional sit-down was announced in Akyem Asante Agogo by the family of late guitarist.

The official traditional sit down by elders and top family heads would be led by the Asona Hene on Friday, June 28, 2018, at the Royal Akwamu Hene’s palace at Nkwantananso – Agogo.

The main agenda of the sitting would be announced by the elders as tradition demands. However, the family is keenly expected to suggest final funeral arrangements with the chiefs and elders after which a final date and other provisions for the funeral would be announced.

Smart Frimpong is a self-trained instrumentalist who began his music career with the highlife legend Opambuor in Lagos some 40 years ago. He recorded many songs before joining to play for Abrantie Amakye Dede.

Mr. Smart Frimpong composed the famous “Ama Ghana” song that was performed by the great Opambuor.

The late Smart Frimpong was very entrepreneurial as he started the well-known “Grace African Restaurant” in Chicago in the USA.

He unfortunate passing was reported on Tuesday, June 11, 2019, in the United States of America by his son — Bobby Ohene Frimpong, CEO of Salt Media Ghana and May Day Entertainment LTD. Both companies are giant players in the entertainment industry and media both in Ghana and the UK.

Both parents of the 60 years old Smart Frimpong are still alive.
