Published

on

For some time now, media reports have been rife that Kennedy Agyapong is eyeing the chairmanship position of his party, the National Patriotic Party.

Well, giving clarifications on these reports, the Assin-North MP has said that he’s not in any way interested in that position.

He noted that the policies of the party does not allow one to hold two positions at the same time. And the fact is he loves his position as MP, and he’s not ready to give that up to become the Chairman of the party.

“A lot of people are calling me and what they say is they’ve heard Kennedy Agyapong wants to be the National Chairman for the NPP. Why have they forgotten that I’m a Member of Parliament? What I want to say is that it is not the truth, I’m not going to contest for the party Chairmanship and I’ve not had any discussion with anyone about this but it is all over the place.

He continued in an interview monitored by MyNewsGh.com” It’s on social media that Kennedy Agyapong for NPP Chairman meanwhile I’ve just been elected as a Member of Parliament. If I am interested in being the National Chairman I would have left the MP race so that means it’s not true”.

Supreme Court Dismisses John Mahama’s Motion

Published

on

The Supreme Court has dismissed an application for leave filed by the lawyers for John Dramani Mahama in the election petition case to serve interrogatories on the Electoral Commission (EC).

Mahama was seeking to compel the EC to provide answers to some questions known in legal parlance as interrogatories.

In law, interrogatories are a formal set of written questions propounded by one litigant and required to be answered by an adversary in order to clarify matters of fact and help to determine in advance what facts will be presented at any trial in the case.

Some of the information Mahama’s legal team led by Tsatsu Tsikata was seeking answers to include the manner in which the results of the 2020 presidential polls were transmitted and the level of involvement of the National Communications Authority (NCA) in the process.

But both the lawyers for the Electoral Commission and President Nana Akufo-Addo opposed the application.

They argued that John Mahama and his legal team were using the “back door” to seek further information from the EC that were not captured in their petition.

Mr. Akoto Ampaw, the lawyer for the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, described the application as a “fishing expedition”.

The Supreme Court in a unanimous decision dismissed the application.

According to the apex court, the interrogatories were irrelevant to the case.

It however set tomorrow, Wednesday, January 20, 2021, for case management.
