At the Jubilee House this evening, Thursday 12 November 2020, a delegation from the Rawlings’ family visited the President to officially inform him of the passing of the former Ghanaian Head of State.

A family spokesperson informing President Akufo-Addo at the seat of the government about the death of JJ Rawlings revealed that the late ex-president took ill and was hospitalized a few days after burying his beloved mother on Saturday 23 October 24, 2020.

The family spokesperson while at the Jubilee House officially broke the sad news to the President saying;

“A great tragedy has befallen us as a country and as a family. Some four weeks ago we were here to inform the presidency of the death of our mother, our grandmother, our sister.

The president, because of his special love for the ex-president, he assisted us a lot in the burial of our mother.

Just a few days after the burial the former president Jerry John Rawlings felt sick and was hospitalized.

A lot of efforts were made, the president was in touch with his brother. Little did we know that the former president will leave us.

So we have come here formally to inform the president and the entire government that this is what has happened.

Jerry John Rawlings is no more and we deem it appropriate to come and inform you officially.” Mr Rawlings died at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra after suffering a short illness”.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in response to the family said; “I will like to extend my deepest condolences to the family, his widow, children, brothers and the entire family.

“I was given this information when I arrived at the office and I found it hard up to now to cope with the information. This is a man of great vitality, dynamism and energy.

“It is very difficult to go and see a dead body lying in the morgue but then it is one of the things that all of us have got to get used to because the almighty has his plans for each one of us.

“I am extremely disturbed and saddened by his passage. He is not an ordinary Ghanaian, he was the first president of our Fourth Republic.”

Akufo-Addo told the family that he and the late former president of Ghana, Jerry John Rawlings had a rough and wild connection that dated years.

But, he said, in the end, the two of them saw value in each other and became the best of friends.

“He and I had a tempestuous relationship over many years but I believe that we came to see value in each other in the end.

Ghana Election 2020: Rawlings Death: “Mahama Tried Hard To Silence Rawlings When He Was Alive” : Nana Konadu Agyemang Weeps

Nana Akonadu Agyemang Rawlings, who is wife of Late Former President Jerry John Rawlings, has made an explosive statement in a press conference this afternoon, Monday 23rd November 2020, saying that, former President John Dramani Mahama tried so hard to silence Rawlingsin the affairs of NDC when he was alive.

Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, who is the Presidential Candidate for National Democratic Party (NDC), held her press conference today at Alisa Hotel.

In the statement of the NDP, they slammed the Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama for trying to use the death of Mr. Rawlings to get political sympathy to win votes in the coming general elections.

Reading on behalf of the party, the NDP General Secretary Alhaji Mohammed Frimpong who addressed the media said the NDC is being hypocritical in the wake of the demise of the late statesman.

He said “With what he did with the demise of former President Mills, he should not be allowed to do the same with the death of our beloved, former president Rawlings. And Ghanaians should not oblige to that. The hypocrisy of the NDC when Jerry John Rawlings was alive, [was such that] John Mahama desperately wanted to silence him and now that Rawlings is no more, Mahama finds it expedient to utilize his death to galvanize support for his weak base within the NDC rank and file and the country at large to salvage his 2020 campaign which is going nowhere.”

He added “Suddenly, the individuals within the NDC under the current leadership of John Mahama who publicly vilified Rawlings have rediscovered a new voice proclaiming themselves to the true adherent of his ideals and those who used foul languages against Rawlings are now hailing him.”

Sports fans will finally be allowed back into stadiums as Prime Minister Boris Johnson is set to reveal the new three-tier system that will come into force in England after lockdown ends on December 2nd.

This comes a week after the Department for Culture Media and Sport submitted proposals to the Cabinet Office for the return of fans to grounds in December for the first time since the first lockdown back in March.

Under the new rules, spectator sports outdoors will be allowed in Tier 1 and Tier 2 areas to watch Premier League games and other sporting events after the lockdown ends.

Under the softest measures in Tier 1 areas, there will be a maximum crowd size of either 50 percent stadium occupancy or 4,000 spectators. In Tier 2 areas, the stadium rules will be 50 percent of overall capacity or 2,000, according to British Media.

However, for those in the Tier 3 measures, fans will still not be able to attend sporting events.

Boris Johnson is set to make an announcement later on Monday November 23. He will make a statement to the House of Commons, and MPs will vote on it later in the week.
