Real Madrid Retain Title As Europe’s Most Valuable Club For The Second Year Running

According to a report published by analysts Football Benchmark, Real Madrid is still Europe’s most valuable football club.

The report, which was released on Thursday, May 26th, ranks Europe’s 32 most prominent clubs and calculates their worth based on annual financial statements and squad financial values.

Real Madrid won the report for the fourth year in a row, with a valuation of 3.184 billion euros ($3.4 billion).

It is still less than their valuation in 2020, just before the pandemic, of nearly 3.5 billion euros, though the report notes that they were one of only a few clubs to make a net profit in both seasons affected by the pandemic.

“Real Madrid’s lead at the top has been extended due to continuous sporting and commercial success,” writes the report’s author, Andrea Sartori.

According to the report, Madrid lost 84 million euros due to a lack of matchday revenues as a result of the pandemic.

Real, on the other hand, “made the most of the constraints…accelerating work on the Bernabeu.” It will be ready by the end of 2022 or the beginning of 2023, and it will undoubtedly provide them with a significant revenue boost as well as a potential competitive advantage.”

The list is topped by Manchester United (2.9 billion euros) and Barcelona (2.8 billion euros), with Bayern Munich fourth and Liverpool fifth (2.556 billion euros).

Only four clubs (Ajax, Galatasaray, Porto, and Benfica) outperform the big five European leagues of England, Spain, Germany, Italy, and France, with ten of the top 32 being English.

“What is driving English clubs to greater continental glory is their financial success,” the report acknowledges.

“The Premier League’s aggregate operating revenues of 5.1 billion euros comfortably place them at the top,” while “highly remunerative broadcasting agreements really set them apart.”

Paris Saint-Germain has experienced the greatest overall growth in value over the seven years since the first Football Benchmark report, increasing by 153% to more than two billion euros.

Mason Greenwood Has Bail Extended As Rape Investigation Continues

Manchester United footballer Mason Greenwood will remain on bail over allegations he raped and assaulted a young woman following a court hearing.

The 20-year-old was arrested in January after images and videos were posted online, and he was also questioned on suspicion of making threats to kill.

His bail was due to expire in April but Greater Manchester Police made an application to the courts to extend it, with a hearing held on Thursday.

On Friday, a force spokesman said: “Following a hearing yesterday, a 20-year-old man arrested on suspicion of rape, assault and making threats to kill on Sunday, January 30 remains on bail.”

The spokesman said no further updates would be issued until the suspect was charged or released facing no further action.

Within hours of the allegations surfacing online, the striker – who has made one appearance for England – was suspended from playing or training with the Old Trafford club until further notice.

Nike suspended its sponsorship deal with Greenwood, and later terminated it, while Electronic Arts confirmed his removal from active squads on its Fifa 22 game.
