Tony Bennett, the head coach University of Virginia basketball team is being hailed online after he turned down a pay raise after winning the 2019 national title for the school.

He was offered a pay rise by the management on Monday, September 16, as he extended his contract by another year, but he asked that the money be used to pay his staff more.

“[My wife] Laurel and I are in a great spot, and in the past, I’ve had increases in my contract,” Bennett said in the news release. “We just feel a great peace about where we’re at, all that’s taken place, and how we feel about this athletic department and this community and this school. I love being at UVA…

?

“I have more than enough, and if there are ways that this can help out the athletic department, the other programs and coaches, by not tying up so much [in men’s basketball], that’s my desire.”

Bennett and his wife Laurel also pledged $500,000 toward a career-development program started to assist current and former UVA men’s basketball players.

“Tony’s decision—to turn down a well-deserved raise and instead invest in his players and UVA athletics more broadly—tells you everything you need to know about him as a leader and as a human being,” university president Jim Ryan said. “Tony is one of the most selfless people I’ve ever met, and this is just the latest example.”

Bennett’s new contract runs through the 2025-26 season. According to the USA Today coaching database, Bennett made $4.15 million last season.

‘I Asked Myself All The Questions’ : Anthony Joshua Admits He Suffered Heavily Following Shock Defeat By Andy Ruiz

Andy Ruiz

Anthony Joshua has admitted he suffered heavily following shock defeat by Andy Ruiz.

The British Nigerian boxer lost his IBF, WBA and WBO titles after he was defeat to Ruiz Jr back in June at Madison Square Garden. The Mexican boxer defeated Joshua in the seventh-round to hand British/Nigerian boxer his first professional loss.

The pair will fight once again in Saudi Arabia on December 7, and Joshua has admitted that he suffered heavily after their first fight.

He said: ‘I think I had to grieve and ask myself all the questions you would expect. People say ‘you lost’, I call it a blip.

‘I can’t wait to get in there and fight him. Every time I have fought a champion I have risen to the occasion.’

Joshua also said he might change his approach in order to be more proactive at the start of fights.

I need to start taking this approach to my fights where I’m a bit more lively. I know I’m capable of it. There is too much at stake.

‘If I go in there where I’m switched on, a time like the Ruiz fight where I am so relaxed, that might be the difference.’

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ‘Made Deadline Day Phone Call’ To Man Utd Target Before Transfer Collapsed

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reportedly make a desperate last-ditch phone call to Juventus forward Mario Mandzukic on deadline day.

The Croatian was linked with a switch to Old Trafford during the summer as United searched for a replacement for Romelu Lukaku.

And Tuttosport report that Solskjaer made a personal effort to contact Mandzukic over a move, but failed in his approach.

The 33-year-old striker is said to have delayed his decision in order to see whether he had been included in Juve’s Champions League squad.

But he was not part of boss Maurizio Sarri’s plans, and Mandzukic – who was said to have offers on the table from PSG and Bayern, as well as United – now looks set for a move to Qatar.

Qatari side Al-Gharafa are the rumoured front runners for Mandzukic’s signature, with his agent allegedly due to land in Qatar on Monday to finalise transfer negotiations.

United failed to bring in any further attacking reinforcements following Lukaku’s departure, and have since also lost Alexis Sanchez to Inter Milan as well.

The Red Devils have been linked with a move for Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson next summer, while Solskjaer ruled out a move for veteran Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

“If he [Ibrahimovic] was 28, not 38 next month, it would be a big difference,” Solskjaer said.

“He had a great time here and he is still doing well. He was unfortunate he got his injury here when he did.

“Who knows? He knows my number.

“He never rented my house but he was looking at it, and we can speak our native language. If he is serious I’ll always talk to Zlatan.”
