His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo -Addo has unveiled the first VW vehicles assembled in the newly established VW Assembly Plant in Ghana.

“On Monday, 3rd August 2020, I unveiled the first VW vehicles assembled in the newly established VW Assembly Plant in Ghana. The models being assembled are Tiguan, Teramont, Amarok, Caddy, Polo and Passat. It is a good day for Mother Ghana.

The VW assembly plant will create a lot of highly skilled jobs, reduce the high amounts of foreign exchange used in the importation of second-hand vehicles, and, thereby, help strengthen the Ghanaian currency, whilst, at the same time, earn the nation foreign exchange through the exportation of made-in-Ghana vehicles.

With the Chinese company, Sinotruk, already engaged in the assembly of trucks in Ghana, I am hopeful that other global automobile companies, which have indicated their preparedness to set-up shop in Ghana, will soon follow the remarkable, pioneering example of Volkswagen”. According to a MyNewsGh publication we have sighted, the former military ruler who later became a democratically elected president, Jerry John Rawlings nearly took the life of another NDC stalwart after he squeezed his balls and squeezed it to the point of death.

Here’s the rest of the news as reported by the online portal:

According to Professor Kwamena Ahwoi, writing in his new book, working with Rawlings, Bede Ziedeng suffered for being a supporter of Obed Asamoah and being opposed to Atta Mills at the 2002 NDC Congress to elect National Executives of the party.

Bede Ziedeng, who was then a member of the Elections Committee nearly died from a vicious attack from Rawlings at the entrance of the Trade Fair Site in Accra.

According to the account, Bede Ziedeng and others had formed a human shield to protect dignitaries going into the Trade Fair Site. As Rawlings was going in, the crowd moved closer to see him and cheer him on. This made it nearly impossible to see whatever was going on. So Rawlings took advantage of the situation. He held Bede Ziedeng’s testicles, squeezed them hard, and left them in record time.

This caused Bede Ziedeng to faint immediately. He was taken away and given attention until he recovered. An unperturbed Rawlings accessed the hall and the proceedings went on. Mr. Ziedeng later reported Rawlings to some leading members of the NDC, including Prof Ahwoi. When Rawlings was confronted on the matter, he merely laughed it off. But the incident nearly led to Mr. Ziedeng leaving the party for good.
