Taliban Orders Afghanistan Female TV Presenters To Cover Their Faces

Published

on

Women presenters and reporters on Afghan television channels have been ordered to cover their faces while delivering news.

On Sunday, May 22, Afghan female reporters went on air with their faces covered, in accordance with a Taliban order, after defying one the day before.

According to the BBC, a presenter stated that while women in the television industry resisted, their employers were put under pressure.

The women wore hijabs and face-covering veils while presenting and reporting news and other programs on popular channels such as TOLOnews, Ariana Television, Shamshad TV, and 1TV.

Since seizing power from the Afghan government last year, the Taliban has increasingly restricted the lives of women.

“It’s OK that we are Muslims, that we wear hijab, that we hide our hair,” TOLOnews presenter Farida Sial told the BBC, “but it’s very difficult for a presenter to cover their face for two or three hours consecutively and talk like that.”

“They want to eliminate women from social and political life,” she explained.

Previously, the Taliban’s Ministry for the Prevention of Vice and the Promotion of Virtue ordered that all women in public wear a face veil or face punishment.

“Today is another black day for the women of my country,” said another female Afghan journalist, who did not want to be identified.

American Women Threaten To Go On Nationwide S3x Strike In Protest Over Abortion Ban | PHOTOS

Women in the US are threatening not to have sex with men in protest of the Supreme Court’s decision on Friday, June 24 to illegalize abortion as pro-choice supporters organized rallies all across the US through the weekend.

There has been national outrage especially among liberals following the court’s ruling to overturn women’s federal right to abortions, with 26 states expected to further restrict or outright ban abortions.

Some women on social media are now planning to withhold sex from men ‘until abortion rights are federal law.’

‘Women of America: Take the pledge. Because SCOTUS overturned Roe v. Wade, we cannot take the risk of an unintended pregnancy, therefore, we will not have sex with any man — including our husbands — unless we are trying to become pregnant,’ one Twitter user wrote.

There were also calls for ‘sex strike’ across the country as terms including #SexStrike and #abstinence began trending online.

‘I live in New York and I am DOUBLE FURIOUS with the Supreme Court. I want to find people who are coordinating a mass sex strike. That is our power,’ another woman raged. ‘Women have the power here. No more sex until abortion rights are federal law.’

Another supporter wrote on Twitter: ‘Womxn! Calling for a national #sexstrike  No sex with men until women’s rights are codified by law. #Allmen #Underhiseye.’

‘Perhaps a #sexstrike (also known as #abstinence) would help the men folk to be all in on this #womensrights issue,’ another Twitter wrote.

Others posted a graphic that read: #SexStrike. If our choices are denied, so are yours.’

Brianna Campbell, 24, told The New York Post;

‘If you’re a man who won’t get a vasectomy, even though it’s reversible, and you’re not out in the streets fighting for my rights, you do not deserve to have sex with me,’ .

‘I think it’s absolutely valid for us to be withholding the Holy Grail that men seem to think is important,’ Caroline Healey told The Post during a protest in Union Square on Saturday.

‘Why shouldn’t we withhold it if we’re always worried that they’re not going put a condom on, that they’re going take one off after we ask them to,’ she added.

Hip-Hop mogul, Sean “Diddy” Combs paid tribute to his late partner, Kim Porter at the 2022 BET Awards.

While being honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2022 BET Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday, the rapper, 52, gave special shout-outs to Porter, who died unexpectedly of lobar pneumonia in 2018 at age 47.

After several star-studded performances to celebrate the rapper’s career, Diddy played an old video clip of Porter telling him, “Congratulations, Puffy, you’re a star. I can’t tell you how proud I am. From Harlem to Hollywood, that’s a long journey … You work so hard, and I’ve watched you, your blood sweat and tears, and you’ve arrived.”

Sweet home videos of their children, son King, 24, and twins Jessie James and D’Lila Star, 15, were also featured in a montage.

Before performing “I’ll Be Missing You” with Faith Evans and Maverick City Choir, Diddy said, “Baby girl, this is for you.” During the performance, Diddy yelled out, “I miss you so much, baby.”

The artists who paid homage to Diddy’s career were Jodeci, Mary J. Blige, The Lox and Lil’ Kim. Diddy also performed “I Need a Girl,” “Pass the Cîroc” with Busta Rhymes,” and “Gotta Move On” with Bryson Tiller.

After the performances, Kanye West and Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds presented Diddy with his award. While accepting the honor, Diddy said, “I just miss Kim y’all.”

“Stay connected to God, and he’ll bring you out,” he said. “I just want to say thank you to Kim.”

He went on to thank “everyone who played a part in my life,” including ex Cassie who brought him out of the “dark times.”

Concluding his speech, he said, “When I was a kid, I saw these images that were setting me up for failure, these images that were making me feel less than a dog. I was like, ‘Man I’m not with that. I’m not with that.’ I closed my eyes and dreamed and saw what I had to do.”

“We here for ourselves, we here for our ancestors, you feel me?” he said.

“God gave me this message to give to you, and you, and you and you and the time is right now … I got this dream of Black people being free … I got this dream of us taking accountability and stop killing each other … Being rich and wealthy and living on the same block. I have this dream of us unifying … Our allies. If you’re with us, don’t be silent…I got that dream for us to be free, the last shall be first, and the first shall be last. We gotta unify.”

BET’s Lifetime Achievement Award honors those “who have not only significantly shaped culture through their extensive careers, but who have also been transformative leaders that consistently inspire generations by setting a true standard of excellence,” according to a press release.
