The saga surrounding the smoking photos of Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie on social media seems not to be over as the Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) have revealed they could have taken the rapper to court if it were videos he posted.

Recall some civil society organizations in Ghana including the Vision for Alternative Development (VALD), the Ghana Non-Communicable Diseases Alliance (Ghana NCD Alliance), Media Alliance in Tobacco Control and Health (MATCOH), Jaishi Initiative, and the Community Health Support Team (CHEST) couple of days ago relased a statement bashing the rapper for relaseing such photos of himself smoking on social media.

According to the spokesperson for the group, Mr. Labram Musah who happens to be the Director of Programmes of VALD, and National Coordinator, Ghana NCD Alliance, the group could have proceeded to court if the rapper had posted a video of himself smoking.

In an interview, this morning with Andy Dosty on the ‘Day Break Hitz’ morning show on Hitz FM, Mr. Labram Musah stated Sarkodie’s timing of releasing such photos on social media was so wrong at the point the world is fighting against smoking because of the coronavirus pandemic.

He continued that the Ghana Public Health Act (Act 851) under part Six, which talks about tobacco control measures, prohibits tobacco advertising, promotion, and sponsorship, and also bans its products in the entertainment media hence could have sued the rapper if it were to be videos.
